Dull Boy Pictures was established by the award-winning & BIFA long-listed screenwriter Duncan Paveling (MY FERAL HEART) with a vision to develop and produce projects with an original voice and strong sense of storytelling. Duncan is partnered by Gavin Thain and Gareth Stanley.
Having had an eclectic background in film/television, Duncan
began as a Music Assistant to Composer, Barrington Pheloung on projects such as HILARY & JACKIE
(Anand Tucker) and INSPECTOR MORSE.
After a short period
abroad, Duncan returned to the UK and began freelancing on a number of corporate and television
projects, which included work with Tiger Aspect and the BBC.
After a couple of years freelancing, Duncan joined Magnet Films Ltd, a new company
established by the late Sir David Frost. It was during his time at Magnet Films, Duncan began to
develop his craft as a writer.
With the development of a number
of screenplays, Duncan formed Dull Boy Pictures, which saw its first feature MY FERAL HEART (Dir: Jane
Gull) become a multi-award winning, breakout success, which, after its UK premiere at Edinburgh Film
Festival, received numerous BIFA nominations, a record-breaking Ourscreen cinematic release and
critical acclaim, with Mark Kermode (BBC/BFI) referring to it as ‘One of the most influential
Brit-pics of the decade.’
MY FERAL HEART has since been picked
up by the BFI for its remaining UK and International sales, with the BBC recently acquiring the rights
to present it with a terrestrial and network premiere.
Duncan
also writes a regular column, entitled the MOVIE CLINIC for the independent film magazine FILM
STORIES, exploring the therapeutic nature of film, through readers correspondence. The MOVIE CLINIC is
soon to move into Podcast form also.
With numerous projects in
development, it’s THE OTHER SIDE (Dir: Jane Gull, Prod: Wendy Griffin) that is closest to
production. Duncan has also made a recent move into directing with his first short LITTLE MARY
(Starring Suzanna Hamilton & Stephen Boxer, Prod: Karen Newman) which he’s also written.
